Tokyo Art Week visitor guide
Dates, tickets, access & getting around
Use the Overview to choose events, then the Venues page to explore exhibitions, museums and public art, with their locations and nearby stops. This guide brings together Art Week Tokyo and independent city programmes; each has its own dates and entry conditions.
When to visit
Art Week Tokyo takes place Wednesday 4–Sunday 8 November 2026. This guide also covers independent festivals, museum exhibitions, design shows, outdoor art and performances happening in Tokyo on those dates.
The free public AWT Bus runs Friday 6–Sunday 8 November only. Plan your own transport on 4–5 November and for venues outside the AWT network.
Official AWT dates ↗Around the city
DESIGNART TOKYO runs 30 October–8 November across its KK Line main location and venues around Tokyo. Shibuya Art Festival runs 2–8 November across several district venues.
TOKYO ATLAS runs 10 October–20 December in Daiba, Aomi and Tennoz. Trolls in the Park runs 3–23 November around Zenpukuji Park and Nishi-Ogikubo.
These festivals have their own organisers and location lists. Use the citywide entries on the Venues page to choose individual stops, then check each stop’s opening hours and admission.
Dates to prioritise
Wednesday 4: GOOD DESIGN EXHIBITION ends at 18:00. This is the only day it overlaps the guide.
Thursday 5: The AWT Directors Conversation is 17:00–18:30 at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo.
Friday 6: The AWT Bus begins its three-day service. The AWT Symposium (18:00–20:00) overlaps the Tennoz water opera (19:00–20:30); choose one for the evening.
Saturday 7: Sea Hammock, Alloscape and Balloons and Chairs open. Loss and Renewal at BUoY is on view 7–8 November.
Sunday 8: Final day for DESIGNART TOKYO, Shibuya Art Festival, ICC Annual and the Tokyo Midtown Award exhibition, as well as Art Week Tokyo and the water opera.
Museums & design
Museum highlights include Turner at the National Museum of Western Art, Fontanesi at Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum, Bugaku Costumes at Nezu Museum and ICC Annual at Tokyo Opera City, alongside the participating AWT institutions.
For later visits, Turner is open until 20:00 on Friday and Saturday; Fontanesi until 20:00 on Friday. YOSHIROTTEN at TOKYO NODE closes at 22:00 Wednesday–Saturday and 20:00 Sunday. Check last entry in Details.
At 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT, Learning from Hōjōki occupies Gallery 1 & 2 with paid admission; the Issey Miyake × JAXA exhibition in Gallery 3 is free. Tokyo Midtown also hosts GOOD DESIGN on Wednesday and its award exhibition through Sunday.
Waterfront & evening programmes
Use TOKYO ATLAS’s location guide to choose a Daiba, Aomi or Tennoz visit. Exhibition hours are 10:00–17:00, with last entry at 16:30. The Aomi underground parking-lot venue requires a timed reservation.
From Saturday 7 November, combine Sea Hammock and Alloscape at Odaiba Beach with Balloons and Chairs in Symbol Promenade Park. Their exact daily operating hours remain unpublished. JIKU #024 at Teleport Bridge has planned evening lighting from 17:00–23:00; confirm the current schedule.
The Tennoz water opera is a separate ticketed performance, 6–8 November, 19:00–20:30, with doors at 18:00. Book through its organiser and check outdoor-programme updates before visiting.
How to read the dates
The five columns show Wednesday 4 through Sunday 8 November. A filled black dot means the day falls within the organiser’s announced programme or exhibition dates. A grey dot means the day is outside that programme’s dates. The wider exhibition date range appears below the dots where available.
Open Details for opening hours, weekly closures, Sunday exceptions, admission and booking. A filled dot confirms the programme date window; it does not guarantee a venue is open all day. Citywide festivals have different hours at their individual locations.
Tickets & admission
Participating AWT galleries and the ten AWT Focus exhibitions offer free admission. Independent museums, design exhibitions, festivals and performances set their own fees and booking conditions. Each Overview listing has admission information in Details.
Nezu Museum offers online timed tickets. TOKYO ATLAS’s Aomi underground venue requires a timed reservation, and the Tennoz water opera requires a ticket. College and high-school students can visit the Turner exhibition free during 4–19 November with valid student ID.
Free AWT Bus wristbands provide discounted admission at participating AWT museums. Check the venue’s eligibility and discount; the offer does not automatically cover the independent city listings.
Official AWT admission information ↗AWT Focus
Ten guest curators present exhibitions in ten participating galleries. This edition brings together painting, sculpture, film, textiles and other practices across the city.
All ten are included in the Overview. Their individual hours vary, so use the venue schedule before planning a route.
Explore AWT Focus ↗Using the AWT Bus
The free hop-on, hop-off shuttle operates 6–8 November, 10:00–18:00. The organiser lists departures every 15 minutes. Collect a free wristband at a bus stop; a new wristband is needed each day.
Use bus-stop references on the Venues page and the official route map. The shuttle serves the AWT network; use Tokyo’s public transport for independent city venues and outside shuttle hours. Citywide festival maps show locations rather than AWT Bus routes.

The Directors Conversation takes place Thursday 5 November, 17:00–18:30, at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo. The Symposium takes place Friday 6 November, 18:00–20:00, at Keio University’s Mita Campus. Both are free; advance registration is recommended.
Find both locations in the venue directory. Use the programme links for registration and language information.
Directors Conversation ↗ · Symposium ↗AWT Video & AWT Bar
AWT Video is a free screening programme at the SMBC East Tower’s 1F Earth Garden in Marunouchi, open 4–8 November, 10:00–18:00.
AWT Bar is at emergence aoyama complex in Minami-Aoyama, open 4–8 November, 10:00–22:30, with last orders at 22:00. Entry is free; food and drinks are charged separately.
AWT Video ↗ · AWT Bar ↗Planning by neighbourhood
Roppongi: Combine the two 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT exhibitions with Tokyo Midtown’s displays, Mori Art Museum or the National Art Center. GOOD DESIGN is available only on Wednesday.
Marunouchi & Ginza: Start with Fontanesi at Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum or AWT Video, then choose galleries and institutions from the Ginza listings.
Aoyama & Toranomon: Consider Nezu Museum, Aoyama galleries and AWT Bar; plan TOKYO NODE as a separate later stop using its evening hours.
Hatsudai: ICC Annual and Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery are in the same complex, on different floors. Ueno & Yanaka: Combine Turner with SCAI The Bathhouse, checking both schedules.
Waterfront: Choose an Odaiba/Aomi cluster or a Tennoz visit rather than treating every waterfront venue as one walking route. Zenpukuji’s Trolls in the Park and Kita-Senju’s BUoY exhibition work as separate neighbourhood visits.
The Venues page includes programmes at the same venue or complex, other area stops and walking-direction links. Check the suggested programme’s dates and actual opening hours before combining visits.
